MEASURING TECHNIQUES
Select the form applicable to style brace being requested and print it out. If you are unable to do this, please notify me and I will be happy to send you one via US Mail.
Basic Information:
Fill in Client information on top right of form - height and weight are very important
Leg Circumferences are placed in the "ovals" on the form
Leg Diameters (Medial - inside to Lateral - outside) are placed in the "rectangles" on the form
The left side of the form is for circumferences and diameters
The right side of the form is for heights referenced to the bottom of your foot
To find the "Fibular Neck" ('G' Data point), run your finger down the outside of your leg. Just below the knee you will feel a small bone sticking out - this is that point. The calf band will sit just below this point.
In addition to the data form, a full size tracing of your leg is also required. To do this, obtain a large piece of paper and tape it to the floor. Sit on the paper and with a pencil held against your leg, trace the outside of your leg. While still on the paper, mark your ankle axis and knee axis on the tracing. Review the tracing to see that the diameters you placed on the data form match the width of the leg you just traced at the various points.
This sounds hard to do, but it isn't.
HINT - I've found that it is easier for clients to put the paper on top of a kitchen table and then with one leg still on the floor, put your other leg on the table top. This will make it easier and you won't have to bend over quite so far. It will help if you push the table against the wall and place your foot on the wall so that when you do lean over, you won't slide on the paper.
Best of all is to get someone to help you !!
You will probably still have some questions - that's fine - just ask I will do my best to help. Ordering a brace takes time and with the cost involved, you want a proper fit. Remember no question is too silly to ask. Please be open and honest about your needs and have fun during the ordering process.
